About Insuladd e-coat
Insuladd™ e-coat utilises the very latest in ceramic micro-spheres technology originally developed by NASA for use on the space shuttle tiles.

This technology has now been adopted for use in the domestic and industrial environment. Research and development has lead to the production of a light elastomeric liquid solution, which is not only easy to apply to most structures but also capable of reducing the solar loading of very large surfaces in extreme sunlight. In fact Insuladd e-coat has been shown to reduce heat gain from the sun by up to 40%.

Applications of Insuladd e-coat Waterproofing and thermal insulation to new and existing roofs, sidings, and other surfaces on a wide range of substrates such as;

Precast and in-situ concrete
Smooth masonry
Plaster and smooth stucco
Fibre-cement and GRC panels
Sprayed PU foam
Bituminous sheeting and coatings
Galvanised steel and alum sheeting
Fibreglass and plastic water tanks
Most previously painted surfaces

How Insuladd e-coat works.
Insuladd insulating coatings contain tiny ceramic micro-spheres of 30–100 microns in diameter.

The tiny microspheres act as highly efficient thermal barriers , so that when the coating dries, they form a barrier against heat transfer.

The layer is created by the microspheres coming closer together as the coating dries, until they eventually touch each other forming a single, very thin, thermal barrier.

This barrier reflects, refracts and dissipates heat, thereby keeping heat in a structure during the cold months and out of the structure during the hot months.

As they are true microspheres, the ceramic particles do not add weight but increase the strength of the coating. This helps to keep down the weight loading on the structure being coated.

Insuladd has ceramic micro-spheres which create a thermal barrier. They refract, reflect and dissipate heat. Below is a typical surface where Insuladd e-coat has been applied.

Advantages over current roof coatings
Energy Savings - Insuladd e-coat can save up to 40% on energy costs

Labour Savings - Insuladd e-coat is applied by paint brush, roller and spray gun and does not require any specialist equipment. The time needed to coat the structure is also reduced, as a single coat dries in 2-3 hours for recoating.

Lightweight - Insuladd e-coat provides the thermal properties required but has a mass of only 0.73kg/m˛. Being much lighter than traditional insulation boards, it is ideally suited to areas that would not be able to withstand any large weight loading, such as lightweight roofs or thin sheet panels.

Superior Flexibility– Insuladd e-coat can flex over a wide temperature range (even bend 90° at -37°C). Its durability and flexibility makes it ideal for surfaces that will bend or move through flexing or expansion and contraction due to heating and cooling. It will elongate, bend and recover with the surface without cracking or flaking, thus ensuring that the surface will remain coated and protected at all times.

Ultraviolet Blocker- Insuladd e-coat blocks solar ultraviolet radiation allowing less harmful UV rays to reach the living and working areas of a building.

The diagram above shows the difference that Insuladd e-coat can make

Uses of Insuladd Insulating Coatings
Insuladd light insulating e-coat is ideal for areas that will be subjected to moisture as it is a waterproof coating and will not only insulate, but also protect against moisture ingress. The elastomeric coating is ideally suited for areas that will flex, such as steel sided buildings or steel roofs, boat hulls. The coatings are effective in both hot and cold climates, reducing the cooling and heating demands, they are safe, non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Insuladd Insulating Coatings can be used to quickly and easily insulate buildings and structures that would otherwise be very difficult or impossible to insulate with more traditional methods.

Insuladd and Paint mixing into a container

How to Add Insuladd® to Paint

The contents of the package of INSULADD® should be gradually stirred into the appropriate size container of house paint! (A one quart bottle of Insuladd® for a gallon of paint or a 5 quart bottle of Insuladd for a 5 gallon pail of paint. Mixing ratio is 4 parts paint to 1 part INSULADD®)

DO NOT try to mix this package directly into your container of paint as it will not all fit! It is best to get a second or larger container to use for mixing purposes. Simply pour your well mixed container of paint into the larger sized container and mix in the INSULADD® slowly while stirring.
NOTE: If needed add 1/2 to 1 cup of water per gallon of paint to help the paint to flow better!

When you finish painting any unused paint can be stored back in its original container.

Add the package of INSULADD® gradually to your paint while stirring to avoid clumping of the additive. Make sure to completely mix all of the INSULADD® into your paint! Always stir your paint for a minute or two prior to commencing painting if the paint has been sitting for more than 2 hours since last used.
Note: Natural bristle brushes tend to perform better than nylon bristle brushes and we recommend their use. When using a roller on smooth walls use a fine nap roller to avoid leaving roller marks on the painted surface.

Spray painting with INSULADD®: Many people own or rent paint sprayers, the majority of which are perfectly suited for use in applying paint into which INSULADD® has been added.
A paint spray gun tip in the size range of .617 to .621 works well for most applications however thicker roof coating products may require larger tips in the .627 to .631 range.
NOTE: If needed add 1/2 to 1 cup of water per gallon of paint to help the paint to flow better!

IMPORTANT: Remove the small cartridge filter from the spray gun prior to painting with INSULADD® since the filter will try and strain all of the Insuladd® from the paint and will clog in the process.
INSULADD® will not harm paint sprayers !

INSULADD® insulating additive for paint will leave a mild texture to the surface to which it has been applied. This texture can be felt but is not usually visible unless INSULADD® is being used in a high gloss finish where it tends to slightly flatten the paint gloss.
Mildly textured wall coatings are very desirable since they hide numerous defects in a wall surface such as dents, small gouges, and other surface imperfections. Follow your paint manufacturers instructions in regards to number of coats to apply and clean up procedures. (We recommend 2 coats of paint containing
INSULADD®)

Adding INSULADD® to Stucco Mixes:

The contents of two 32 fl. oz. packages of Insuladd® should be gradually stirred into a 5 gallon pail of STUCCO MIX (One Contractor Jug of INSULADD® evenly divided into 15 gallons of STUCCO MIX also works fine.)

It is best to get a second or larger container to use for mixing purposes. Simply pour your well mixed container of STUCCO MIX into the larger sized container and mix in the INSULADD® slowly while stirring.

NOTE: If needed add water to achieve the desired consistency!

Add the INSULADD® gradually to your STUCCO MIX while stirring to avoid clumping of the additive. Make sure to completely mix all of the INSULADD® into your STUCCO MIX!.

SAFETY DATA:

INSULADD® is a very environmentally friendly blend of inorganic ceramic microspheres which are non-toxic.

Inhalation of large amounts of this product in its free powdered state could cause respiratory irritation and a dust mask should be worn if working around large airborne concentrations of this product prior to mixing with paint. If eye irritation occurs flush eyes with water and if problems persist consult a physician.

The technology that we use in our ceramic insulating paints and additives is not as simple as it may appear. We participated in a NASA Technology exchange program in 1996 to develop the INSULADD® line of products. Many of our competitors thought that our product sounded like a great idea and have attempted to duplicate not only our products but our claims to NASA participation. As you will see from the information on our website, we have numerous ASTM tests, NIL SPEC tests, ENERGY STAR® Qualification, and international approvals from a number of foreign countries, Please look for proper independent test data to support the claims made by manufacturers of products like ours.
