Paint color and its effects on home energy usage.

With the almost unlimited choice of paint colors available today the homeowner and building owner has the ability to vary the look and feel of a structure to suite their tastes.

Paint color is something that homeowners and building owners spend a great deal of time deciding on.

The one thing that homeowners and building owners normally do not consider when choosing the paint color is the energy efficiency of the paint color.

Increases in a building air-conditioning cooling costs by 20% or more can be seen when darker are used in place of light colors.

Light colors and pastel shades have a good inherent solar reflectivity and are better paint colors in energy efficiency terms than are dark colors.

Dark paint colors absorb far more radiant energy which is converted into heat than do lighter paint colors.

INSULADD® products help to reduce solar induced heat gain through the roofs and walls of buildings during summer months regardless of the paint color that is used.

INSULADD® products also help to reduce heat loss from buildings during winter months.

The technology that we use in our ceramic insulating paints and additives is not as simple as it may appear. We participated in a NASA Technology exchange program in 1996 to develop the INSULADD® line of products. Many of our competitors thought that our product sounded like a great idea and have attempted to duplicate not only our products but our claims to NASA participation. As you will see from the information on our website, we have numerous ASTM tests, NIL SPEC tests, ENERGY STAR® qualification, and international approvals from a number of foreign countries, Please look for proper independent test data to support the claims made by manufacturers of products like ours.
